Sandra Long, 1949 – 2023

Sandra Alice Long passed away peacefully December 31, 2123, at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids. She was 74 years old.

Sandra Alice Crosby was born Oc.t 31, 1949, in Fort Dodge, to Howard and Velda Crosby. She married Frederick G. Long in Fort Dodge in 1969 and after a few years in Fort Dodge they settled in Jefferson.

Sandy worked as a cashier clerk at Pamida in her younger years, pursued a career in nursing in her mid-life, and worked at Hy-Vee later in life. Sandy’s career decisions reflected her deep-seated desire to assist and uplift those around her. Her commitment to public-facing roles was a testament to her warm and caring nature, leaving a mark on the hearts of those she encountered in her professional journey.

Throughout her life, Sandy found joy in many crafting formats. She spent countless hours creating beautiful quilts, collecting recipes, and making thoughtful gifts for her family and friends. Christmas held a special place in her heart as it combined her love for shopping, family, and homemade gifts; she especially enjoyed baking cookies and crafting with her granddaughters at Christmas time. Sandy’s infectious sense of humor brought laughter to those around her. She had a talent for being silly and making people smile with her jokes and lighthearted spirit. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will live on through the laughter she shared, the warmth of her handmade gifts, and the love she gave to her family.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Velda Crosby. She is survived by her loving husband, Frederick G Long; daughters Teresa (Paul) Olson of Jamestown, ND, and Maria Wilson (Todd) of Chicago, IL; granddaughters Phoebe, Siddha, and Daphne; brothers Stanley (Lou), Kenneth (Jody), James (Melissa) and Jeff (Janet); and many nieces and nephews.
